I stood frozen in shock, unable to find words to process Dorothy’s revelation. Her explanation made an unsettling amount of sense, yet my mind refused to accept it entirely. It was too extraordinary, too far removed from the rational world I thought I knew.
“If all of this is just an illusion,” I finally managed to say, “and someone is trying to freeze us to death, why would they bother creating all these dangers within the illusion? What’s the point?”
Dorothy closed her eyes, her expression serene, reminiscent of the moments when she entered her prophetic trances. After a moment, she reopened them, though her gaze seemed to pierce through the false reality surrounding us.
“To stall us,” she replied with conviction. “Think back to what I said earlier. I can’t see anyone’s fate here, not even my own. It’s as if fate itself doesn’t exist in this place.”
