Guilt surged through me the moment I realized how thoughtlessly I had ignored Maxine, the wolf spirit within me, for so long. It was difficult to imagine anyone as neglectful as I had been, pushing her presence aside as though it were an afterthought. Though my actions were not intentional, the damage was undeniable, and my heart ached with remorse.
