Chapter 313: The Weight of Leadership
**Thelma Zane’s POV**
Rhode didn’t expect my visit. Though his face betrayed his fatigue, he still greeted me with warmth and tried to muster some energy.
“It’s late. What brings you here?” he asked, his voice tinged with curiosity and weariness.
“I thought I’d check on you since the election ceremony is tomorrow night,” I replied. “I wanted to see how you’re preparing.”
At the mention of the election, Rhode’s demeanor shifted. His usual confidence seemed to falter, and a shadow passed over his face.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, though I already suspected the answer. “Are you worried about something? If there’s anything I can do to help, just say the word.”
Rhode’s reaction was immediate and defensive. “No, there’s no need! I can handle everything on my own.”
His tone was sharper than he intended, and he quickly seemed to realize it. He opened his mouth to apologize, but no words came. Instead, he let out a sigh, his shoulders slumping under the weight of his thoughts.
