The events were too fast for me to catch up. It was so fast that in just a blink of an eye, we were separated by the other warriors, and after the ground shook and we fell to a hollow cliff that seemed like there’s no end, alone and injured.
I only took bruises and scratches from the leaves and rocks that hit us when we fell, but most of the injuries had been suffered by Lucien who used his body as a shield to protect me from any harm that could hurt me.
I watched as he leaned against the trunk of a gnarled oak, his chest was rising and falling too shallowly and his skin gleamed with his sweat, dirt, and blood that his complexion was paler than usual.
I went to him, leaning close, refusing to look at the dark stains spreading across his shirt that made my heart ache for some reason. I watched as my hand trembled as I touched him—softly at first, then firmer right after as I traced the line of his ribs.
“Touching my abs early at this place?” He hoarsely joked as his body flinch
