Chapter 6

Luke's heart jolted in panic when he heard Rosalie's words and saw the tears spilling from her eyes. This was the first time in four years that he saw her look so helpless and sad. No matter what happened before, she always managed to be full of energy and smiling whenever she was around him. Rosalie was afraid he might misunderstand and think that she had lost faith in their relationship. Although Luke didn't know exactly what had happened, he stepped forward and hugged her. "I'm sorry. Please don't cry. It's all my fault. I got too angry when I heard you call her sister-in-law. I won't do this again, okay?" After saying that, he tried to kiss her again. This time, his movements were gentler than usual. But Rosalie still pushed him away. "It's that time of the month." "It hasn't ended yet?" "Yeah. Probably because I had that fever last time. It just hasn't gone away." Luke's concern flickered as he remembered how weak and feverish she had looked that day. Without a word, he gently picked her up and carried her to the room. After turning off the lights, he settled her into bed. Rosalie was so exhausted that she fell into a deep sleep as soon as she touched the sheets. Luke stared at her peaceful face under the soft glow of the night light, lost in thought. Memories from the past flooded his mind. It wasn't until 3:00 am that he placed a tender kiss on her forehead and finally allowed himself to drift off. The curtains in the room were still open. The morning sunlight streamed in, waking Luke up. Rosalie, lying next to him, was still fast asleep. She turned slightly, which caused his already numb hand to ache with sharp pains. He glanced at the clock beside the bed. When he saw that it was past 9:00 am, he froze. Why hadn't his biological clock woken him up on time today? Breakfast at home was usually served around this time, so Luke quickly got out of bed. He opened the door and tiptoed toward the other bedroom. Before he could take more than a few steps, Marion appeared at the top of the stairs. Her eyes went wide when she saw him coming out of Rosalie's room in his pajamas. "Luke?" Luke instinctively glanced down at his disheveled collar. He felt as though his heart was about to leap out of his chest. Meanwhile, Marion stared at him with increasing suspicion. "Why were you in Rosie's room?" Luke's half-awake mind scrambled. His thoughts were too muddled to form a coherent response. Before he could figure out what to say, Rosalie's door suddenly opened. She stepped out, fully dressed. Her expression was calm and collected as she looked at both of them. "Morning, Mom. Why are you rushing off, Luke? Didn't you call me for breakfast?" So, it was all a misunderstanding. Marion's frantic heart eased, and she waved them both over. "Come on. Let's eat." Rosalie nodded and quickly walked down the stairs, taking Marion's hand. But just as they reached the bottom, Rosalie stopped in her tracks. At the dining table, Joslyn was sitting there, waving at her with a smile. "Rosie, I'm here to discuss wedding details with Luke. You don't mind, do you?" Before Rosalie could respond, Marion cut in with a chuckle. "Oh, Joslyn, Rosie is Luke's sister, and you're his girlfriend. What's there for her to mind?" Rosalie smiled bitterly. Yes, from now on, she was just Luke's sister. There was no reason to mind anymore. She sat down at the table, quietly listening as Joslyn pulled Luke into a conversation about the wedding. "Luke, what do you think about a garden wedding? Or maybe a beach one? Do you prefer diamond rings or gold ones?"
