Chapter 7
Rosalie ate her breakfast in silence, never looking up, nor did she listen to Luke's responses.
After finishing her meal, she was about to leave when she received a bank notification.
It was a bank transfer from Joslyn—200,000 dollars in full.
Rosalie glanced up and met Joslyn's eyes, which held a subtle, almost mocking gaze.
Following that, she received a text from Joslyn. "I really liked the photos you took yesterday, especially the ones with the kiss. They're beautiful. I'll be sure to send them to Luke. Your hard work won't go to waste!"
Rosalie replied with a simple "thanks" before checking her bank account balance.
Looking at the balance, which now showed exactly 30 million dollars, she couldn't help but smile faintly.
While her family was still busy with their meal and not paying attention to her, Rosalie quickly went upstairs, changed clothes, and hailed a cab.
She had made plans to say goodbye to a few close friends today. If she didn't hurry, she might be late. She rushed through the streets and arrived at the clubhouse at exactly 12:00 pm.
Her friends exchanged some casual words. Their voices were filled with reluctance to part.
"Rosie, are you really going to study abroad? How long will you be gone? Will you come back?"
"Yeah, I'll be there for three years, then I'll look for a job and settle down. I probably won't be coming back," Rosalie replied.
The three ladies looked surprised.
"But what about your brother? He's still here, and you're settling in Lovick. Didn't you two agree to get married in the future?"
Rosalie hadn't kept her relationship with Luke a secret from them. After all, their love was something the world couldn't accept. She was afraid that keeping it all bottled up might make her sick, so she confided in a few of her closest friends.
Upon hearing their questions, she forced a smile. "I've let go of it. I don't like him anymore."
She said it so casually, but her friends, who had witnessed everything, knew the pain and struggle she was going through. They didn't know exactly what had happened to make her so resolute, but they stood by her side.
"Well, it's good that you've let go. That way, you don't have to worry about your mom getting hurt."
"Yeah, yeah! There are so many hot guys in Lovick. You won't have trouble finding someone! By the way, I haven't been to Lovick yet. Rosie, make sure to video call me after you settle in. I also want to go to the square and feed the pigeons."
As her friends chattered on, Rosalie couldn't help but smile.
Yes, she was about to start a new chapter in her life. Why should she continue to worry about the past?
…
For the next while, Luke didn't show up again, and Rosalie didn't care where he went.
In the final days before leaving, she spent all her time with Marion. They went shopping together, ate many longed-for dishes, and Marion gave her advice on living alone.
Time passed slowly in those warm and simple moments.
Five days before her departure, Marion left with Karl for a business trip.
Rosalie received a call from her aunt, Jasmine Selfridge. The latter said that Morgan's graveyard was being relocated due to government planning and that they needed to go back to handle the matter.
Since Marion had married Karl, the Davies family had always looked down on her. Rosalie didn't want Marion to get caught up in rumors over this issue, so she decided to handle it herself.
She quickly made arrangements and purchased a good plot of land for the grave.
Just as she was about to leave for the cemetery to collect the ashes, she ran into Luke, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, at the door.
After asking where she was headed, he grabbed her hand with a frown. "Do you even see me as your boyfriend? Your dad is also my dad. Why didn't you ask me to come with you? How can you handle it alone? Get in the car. I'll go with you."
Seeing the serious expression on his face, Rosalie couldn't tell if his words were sincere or not anymore.
