2 Hospital

Karen slowly peeled her eyes opened and she turned around to look for the man who had saved her life. The both of them had gotten along pretty well last night and she was glad that he had saved her life. Her head was hurting so bad and her body felt heavy. She sat down on the bed and was about to stand up from the bed to go inside the bathroom when the door opened. She saw a man walked inside. He was the man who has saved her life last week. “The doctor spoke about discharging you today.” Noah said. “Thank you.” She parted her lips. “Thank you for saving my life once again.” The man walked closer and sat down on the chair close to her bed. Just then, the errand boy the man had brought for her to help her to a few things came inside the room holding a bag of food. The man stood up and dragged the bag of food from the boy. “You may leave.” He said and the boy left the room. “What’s your name?” The man asked, bringing the food out of the bag. “Karen.” She replied with a small smile. “Karen.” He called the name with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Such an old ugly name.” His words made the smile on her face fell and she looked at him with a sour expression. “My name is Travis.” He said, adjusting his black tie. Not liking the way the man was staring at her, Karen stood up from the bed. She took a step forward when the man approached her. Her feet didn’t step too far because of the pains she was feeling on her legs. When the man took another step closer, she forced herself to take a big step. Her back was now resting against the wall. He placed one of his hand above her head before leaning closer to her. “What is that frown for? You should be happy I am the one paying the hospital bills.” The man said. Karen gulped softly, not liking the way the man was talking to her. If she had the money she would have paid him double. She tried to move away but he hit his hand against the wall to cause a light thud. “Where do you think you are going to?” The man asked. Karen didn’t know what to say to the man right now. He had helped her and she had thought if him to be a kind man. But who could have known behind that kindness was his cruel nature? Just then, the door opened and she heard footsteps approaching. “What is going on here?” She heard a voice and when she turned around, her mouth opened in shock. Both men who was standing looked alike and Karen was confused looking at them. The man who had just come inside the room glared at the other man hard. The both of them stared at each other for some time before Travis walked. Karen took a deep breath before raising her head to look at the man who was now staring at her. “Are you alright?” He asked. “Did he do anything to you?” “No.... No. Not at all.” She replied. “I am fine.” “Who is he?” She asked. “My twin brother. I am sorry for uhm....” “It’s okay.” She smiled. “The doctor said you may go home now.” He said. “Okay.” She nodded her head before walking inside the bathroom. She came outside to see he was done arranging her stuffs. “Thank you.” She said, stretching her hands to take the bag from him when he pulled back. “You are not that strong.” He said as they walked down the corridor. When they reached outside of the hospital, he opened the car door for her and she sat down next to him. “Where does your house reside?” She asked him when the car started to drive. “Somewhere far from here.” He answered. “You shouldn’t get angry because of what my brother did. That’s how he behaves even at home.” He didn’t want the girl to get scared because of his brother’s behaviour. Karen shook her head. “I am not angry. Why should I when he didn’t do anything to me?” “Alright.” He teared his gaze from her and focused on the buildings near the roads. When they arrived at her house, Karen stepped down from the car and took the bag from him. She stood there and watched the car drive off before turning around. When she reached her apartment where she stayed with her best friend Jenny, she went inside. Karen had met Jenny during her search for any petty jobs. They became friends quickly and she later found out they shared similar personalities. Jenny hurried from out of the room and came to meet Karen. “Ohh God! Where have you been? I have been calling your number but it went straight to voicemail.” She noticed the drip fixed on her hand. “What happened to you?” Jenny asked in a worried tone. “I had an accident while returning from the burial.” Karen said with a sigh. “I feel hungry and tired. Is there food at home?” “Yes.” Jenny replied. “I cooked some rice.” Jenny took the bag from her and Karen went inside the room to change into a black gown. Staring at her bruised lip in the mirror, she left the room to meet Jenny in the kitchen. She had served the rice into a bowl and the both of them sat down on the floor to eat the food. Karen winced in pain when she sat down. She was still feeling pain in her lower back. She scooped some of the rice on the spoon before bringing it to her mouth to eat. “So tell me.....” Jenny paused to take a look at her wrist which was red. “How were you able to pay the hospital bills?” Karen remembered the stranger who saved her life. She walked to her bag and brought out the bundle of money before throwing it at Jenny. Her eyes widened with money upon seeing the bundle of money in front of her. “Tell me this is fake right now?” Jenny asked in disbelief. “Ohh my God! How did you get this? Who gave you?” Karen beamed with excitement as she stared at her best friend. “Well I was returning from the burial when I got hit by a black car. I fell unconscious but when I woke up this handsome stranger had saved my life. He gave me the money to go to the hospital a week later for check up.” She lied. It was during the time when she was in the hospital bed had she taken the money. She was called by one of her father’s debtors to pay the money he owed before he died. Our of frustration, she was pushed into taking the money without his consent. Jenny dropped the spoon from her hand and held the money, turning it around in shock. “What kind of man is he?” “I don’t know him but I feel he’s rich.” Karen replied. “Did you get his name?” She asked. “No.” Karen shook her head with a sour expression. “Alright then this money would be enough to pay our debt.” Jenny said. “And then we will be free from our debtors. But how are we going to feed?” Karen asked. “A friend of another friend came here today. She told me the job we were seeking for is now available.” Jenny replied. “What kind?” Karen asked. “To work as maids in the house if a billionaire.” Jenny replied. “Is that a good one?” “I don’t want to work as a maid.” Karen frowned. She stood up from the ground and placed her bowl inside the sink.
