Sylvia’s POV
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring at the city lights below while nursing my third glass of whiskey. The Vertex bidding had my nerves on edge, but it wasn't just about the contract.
"Drinking alone?" Caesar's deep voice sent shivers down my spine. I hadn't heard him enter the penthouse.
"Just thinking," I murmured as his strong arms encircled my waist from behind. His scent enveloped me, masculine and intoxicating.
"About the bid?" His lips brushed my ear. "Or about your mother's... interesting choice?"
I tensed slightly. "Both. I need this contract, Caesar. I need to prove that I'm more than just the 'other daughter' who isn't good enough."
His grip tightened possessively. "You have nothing to prove, Sivi. Though I must say," his hand slid up my thigh, "watching you command that room today was... arousing."
Heat pooled in my belly at his touch. "Caesar..."
"Do you remember what happened the last time you were drinking?" he asked, his voice taking on a danger
