Chapter 2189
Thalia had returned to Jamborough just a day later. Recalling how intense her confrontation with Louise was yesterday, she couldn't help but feel conflicted.
She glanced at Adam by her side and said, "Wait for me out here."
The clan grounds forbade outsiders from entering without permission.
Although Reuben, as part of the "matrilineal family", had delivered marriage gifts in the past, there were still clan members who looked down on humans.
Moreover, Thalia didn't want Adam, an ordinary human, to be deeply involved with the demon clan.
Of course, this wasn't his first time visiting Wynthorpe Manor. He knew it wasn't easy to get in and didn't force the matter.
He simply said, "I will. Also, I've prepared everything, but try not to activate Plan B."
Thalia, who was usually more understanding toward Adam, nodded in acknowledgment and headed inside.
The large red gates closed automatically behind her after she entered, not allowing Adam, standing outside, to pass through. He wasn't upset. Instead, he turned and walked back to the car, waiting quietly.
Inside the gates, Thalia made her way directly to the courtyard where Louise resided. It was well known that she and the others had returned to the Jensen residence in Seastone.
Although some in the clan were surprised by her return, no one dared to ask her about it. Who knew if asking the wrong question would earn a direct scolding from her?
Despite her young demon age, she wasn't afraid to reprimand even the clan elders.
Louise was also somewhat surprised by Thalia's return. She didn't think the latter was here to seek trouble, as the matters needed addressing had been dealt with yesterday.
However, the fact that she came rushing back so quickly led her to surmise something had happened with Shannon.
She was just pondering when Thalia finally piped up. "I know everything."
Louise raised an eyebrow, then heard her continue, "About you and Father. Shannon showed me something."
As she spoke, she raised her hand and threw the fox fur that Shannon had used to store the memories.
The fox fur turned into dots of mystic light in the air and then began to re-create the memory fragments recorded by Shannon's soul.
Suddenly, outside her mind domain, Louise saw that familiar face. Her eyes trembled sharply.
She watched as the man carefully cared for her, eagerly coaxing her, and in that moment, her thoughts seemed to be pulled back in time to that period.
It was the most ordinary yet happiest time of her fox life.
The scene in front of her flickered briefly, then Thalia swiftly gathered it back up with a gesture.
She looked at Louise, her eyes still stubborn but no longer as confrontational as they had been when she had questioned her the day before.
"I used to believe that you never loved him… or me." Thalia confessed, "If I didn't see it myself, I would've never believed that you two shared such moments together.
"I've… misunderstood you."
Louise stared at Thalia, whose eyes were cast downward and whose voice held tightly in check. "I just don't understand why you'd never bothered to explain it to me. Just, why didn't you tell me the truth?"
Louise listened quietly, and after a long while, she asked, "What do you wish to hear from me?"
Thalia looked up, fixing her gaze on her mother. Without hesitation, she questioned, "Why did you abandon us? Why didn't you save him?"
Or, why she had never shown her affection throughout the years…
Louise seemed to have expected the question.
Yet instead of answering right away, her expression remained unchanged as she looked at Thalia and countered calmly, "You know everything, don't you? So, why bother asking me?"
Just a few memory fragments, and she thought to trick the truth out of her?
Thalia fell silent. She didn't flinch despite being caught in the act.
As Shannon had said, probing gently was just the first method. Now, it was time to activate Plan B.
