Chapter 2188
With Shannon and Hector both living in Jamborough for the last two years, Thalia had mostly stayed there too as their "study companion", which, of course, left poor Adam all alone.
With his wife, daughter, and son all out of town, he had taken every chance he could get to fly to Jamborough. He even considered shifting all his work there.
Now that everyone was finally back home, there was no way he was going to spend the night alone in his room.
After waiting outside the room for a bit, the door finally opened. The next second, someone was shoved into his arms. It was Thalia.
With their daughter watching, Adam couldn't exactly start hugging and cuddling his wife right away. Besides, it had been a while since Shannon had been home; as a father, he had to show he cared, too.
That was his plan. But the moment his eyes swept over Thalia and caught the faint redness in her eyes, every prepared question and casual greeting instantly vanished from his mind.
His face grew serious as he asked, "What happened?"
Did something go wrong back in Jamborough? Or… Did Louise give her a hard time?
Thalia simply answered, "I'll tell you about it later."
She then turned to Shannon and added, "I'll take care of everything from here. Meanwhile, focus on your recovery."
Shannon's soul had barely recovered, yet she still had to worry about grown-up problems the second she came home. Thalia couldn't help feeling like she had failed as a mother.
Shannon nodded obediently. Then, noticing the slightly put-out look on Adam's face, like he was being sidelined by the two women, she added, "You know, Dad can help with the matter I mentioned earlier."
Hearing that there was something he could help with, Adam visibly perked up. After reminding Shannon to rest well, he promptly led Thalia back to the room.
Just as promised, Shannon didn't involve herself in anything afterward. With her soul still recovering, she ended up sleeping longer than usual.
By the time she woke, it was already noon.
Having been told by Thalia not to disturb Shannon's rest, George had been keeping things quiet. Once he saw her awake, he signaled for the maid to bring up the soup that had been simmering since morning.
"Your parents went back to Jamborough early this morning. Your mother asked us to make sure you had this soup—it's her recipe." He paused briefly, then added, "Your grandma had been preparing it all morning."
Shannon's movements stiffened slightly as she took over the bowl of soup. She then nodded, replying, "Thanks, Mrs. Jensen Senior."
The soup entered her mouth.
She had been addressing Marie as Mrs. Jensen Senior since the very beginning, and despite all these years, she never changed it. Over the past two years, George had heard Marie frequently complaining about it.
However, he didn't mind much.
After all, Marie had chosen to treat Shannon coldly from the start. Therefore, it was her deserved consequence to bear. He wasn't about to use his position as an elder to pressure Shannon into forgiving someone.
Shannon appreciated this attitude of his, never meddling in her affairs.
After finishing her soup and meal, she went to look for Benjamin. If she was going to recover, it would make the most sense to do so in a place with the most concentrated and purest spiritual energy!
Knowing how unique she was, George didn't stop her. As he went upstairs, he noticed Marie peering around, either looking at him or at something behind him.
After a moment of silence, she asked, "Has she gone to the Cooper residence?"
"Yeah."
"Did she finish her soup?"
"Yeah."
"Did she say anything?"
Instead of the short reply, George looked at Marie and deliberately said, "She said, 'Thanks, Mrs. Jensen Senior.'"
Marie's face twitched slightly. After a long pause, she huffed angrily and turned to walk away.
How cold was Shannon's heart? Would it kill her to call her "Grandma" after drinking the soup she had prepared all morning?
