I felt my heart clench, but only for a while. Martha would never betray me, because we had the same goal.
Martha was brought over soon after. Her wrists were still swollen. After hearing their questions, she turned to look at me, still shaking.
I nodded at her, and she immediately broke down in tears. "Yes, my esteemed guests. I'd been put through so much suffering. Look at my wrists—I almost couldn't use my hands anymore!
"But we're just lowly hostesses who couldn't afford to offend someone of such status. We could only bemoan our misfortune and go on with our day!"
"Do you believe her now?" Vivian asked.
I felt glee in my heart when I saw Vivian turn to Elara, looking as though she'd won.
No one else would interfere in my plan from then on, right?
"The boyfriend you talked about wouldn't be a customer here in Kanam, would he?" Elara asked disdainfully. "Hah. Which customer would be so blind as to treat a hostess as his partner?"
