Chapter7 ECHOES OF HER ABSENCE
Jax’s POV
“Where did she disappear to this time?” Kai asked, clearly exasperated.
“I don’t know,” I muttered, staring at the floor. “She just vanished… shifted into her vampire form and flew off. I was trying to compel her—” I trailed off, shame washing over me.
Kai’s expression turned stormy. “Seriously, Jax? You tried to compel her? Have you forgotten who she is? She’s far too strong for that.”
“I was desperate,” I replied quietly, my voice cracking. I gripped my hair, trying not to fall apart. “I didn’t want her to see me like this… as a monster.”
Kai opened his mouth to say more, but Ty stepped in with a calming tone. “Let it go, Kai. She just needs space. She’ll come back when she’s ready. Give her time to process everything.”
As if summoned by his words, the door opened and her voice floated in.
“I’m fine, Dy. Really. No need to worry,” Zara said gently as she walked into the office.
