Chapter 108
Elena’s POV
Boots thundered down the corridor before the doors even finished opening. Two soldiers burst into the hall, faces pale, breathing hard.
“Alpha Eric,” one of them said urgently, dropping to a knee. “We went to retrieve Magmus from the dungeon. He’s… he’s dead. We found a written statement beside him, taking responsibility for everything.”
The words didn’t register at first.
Dead? My thoughts stalled, like my mind had slammed into a wall. Magmus? Gone? No... that couldn’t be right. Of all people, he was the last man I would ever expect to simply… disappear like that. It didn’t fit him. It didn’t fit anything I knew.
A sharp cry tore through the stunned silence. Sara crumpled to the floor as if her legs had given out, her hands clutching at her chest while tears poured down her face. “No… no… Magmus…” she sobbed loudly. “Why would you do something so foolish? You didn’t deserve this. You did nothing wrong!”
