“Hannah and Liam aren’t home yet?”
I had just returned from the hospital. Grandma practically forced me to leave, insisting that I go home and get proper sleep. She even called Uncle herself and asked him to stay with her for the night so I wouldn’t have any excuse to remain there.
When he agreed, I had no choice but to listen. I still couldn’t fully tolerate his presence, but at that moment, Grandma’s recovery mattered more than my discomfort.
Liam and Hannah had left earlier than I did, so I assumed they would already be back. But when I stepped inside, I didn’t see either of them anywhere.
“Oh, here they are,” Margaret said from the living room.
I turned toward the door just as it opened. Hannah walked in first, her face glowing with excitement, followed by Liam, who was carrying several large shopping bags and toy boxes in his arms.
“Liam, did you buy all of those for Hannah?” I asked, unable to hide the disapproval in my voice.
