Chapter 4
Andrew came home and found that I had temporarily moved to his parents' residence, which worked for him. He happily welcomed Millie to our place, and she moved in with him.
The nanny back home told me that Millie, who hated my scent, threw out all my fragrances at home, while Andrew coldly disposed of all my belongings.
Now, Millie had sprayed her citrus-scented perfume on everything.
The nanny grumbled to me, "Mrs. Bergman, that scent smells so cheap and revolting, but Mr. Bergman puts up with it and lets her spray it all over the place."
As time passed, my belly started to show. Despite that, I continued showing up at work. The company management accorded me respect when they saw how Richard and Jennifer treated me.
With my abilities added to the mix, I repeatedly saved the company from reputational damage a few times and started gaining access to the core management.
In contrast, Andrew's heart was increasingly not in his work. Instead, he became more and more obsessed with Millie to the point that he would choose her over the company's interest.
Every time Millie's family made a scene, he would pacify them using company funds, which only whetted their appetite. His immaturity and lack of responsibility led him to recklessly use company funds as proof of his love for Millie. He even hired members of the Santos family, only because Millie pleaded with him to help her younger brother out.
When I was about to fire Millie's younger brother for misconduct, Andrew snapped at me impatiently, "Can you go easy on Millie for once?"
Always the obedient wife, I listened to his orders and stopped "picking on" Millie. Before long, he had arranged for Millie to work as my secretary.
To say Millie was inexperienced was an understatement. She could not keep up with my pace or understand my orders.
Whenever I communicated with her, she would tear up and rush to Andrew, crying in front of him without a word. He would then barge into my office and yell at me, not caring that I was heavily pregnant.
Because of Millie, we lost a few major projects. Andrew blamed it all on my incompetence. He thought I should quit my job and focus on my pregnancy.
I took it all in without a complaint.
When my due date approached, Millie grew visibly worried and concerned. She made several attempts to induce a miscarriage, but I managed to dodge all of her planned attacks.
Out of anger, she shoved me onto the ground. Clutching my belly, I groaned loudly as blood gushed out between my legs, a sign of premature birth.
Turning to my husband dearest, I begged, "Andrew, all this blood… Our baby…"
Pulling Millie behind him, he said coldly to me, "We can always have another baby. You totally deserve this. You shouldn't have bullied Millie in the first place."
He even barked at the employees around, "Do not help her!"
Millie flashed me a gleeful grin from behind Andrew, hoping that by delaying my medical care, I would lose my baby.
Alas, she had no idea that my in-laws, out of concern, had sent a team to watch over me. The team panickedly ran to my assistance and sent me to the hospital. Even then, Millie still blocked the entrance to the elevator, hoping to stall time.
Without hesitation, they removed her and slapped her in the face before rushing me to the hospital. After all, they were employed by my in-laws, the grandparents of the unborn baby. Millie's orders meant nothing to them.
When the news reached Richard and Jennifer, they rushed over to the hospital. There, they finally demanded that Andrew break up with Millie.
To their dismay, he fell onto his knees before them. "Dad, Mom, I'm serious about Millie! I only have eyes for her.
"I've given you a grandchild. That's what you wanted, isn't it? After Josephine gives birth, I'll divorce her and marry Millie. Millie will take care of the baby."
The loud cries of a newborn rang in the hallway at the end of Andrew's speech, spelling the end of him.
