Edith really was incorrigible. Did she think her things were better than everyone else’s?
When she found out Edith had moved in with Parker, Cornelia hadn’t felt this sick.
She looked at Murphy.
“Thank goodness you’re not like Parker. If you were like him, I wouldn’t want you.”
Cornelia made no effort to hide her disgust for Edith, but Murphy found her even more lively and adorable because of it.
The old Cornelia used to sacrifice herself for Parker, chasing after him and losing herself in the process.
“Cornelia, don’t worry. If that day ever comes and you leave me, everything I have will be yours.”
Murphy held Cornelia tightly in his arms.
She pushed him away. “This is the old house. Be careful!”
“No, Mom and Dad are shrewd. They've probably already figured it out. I've told them everything Parker did.”
Hearing this, Cornelia felt a bit embarrassed.
She had scolded both brothers, though it was partly out of necessity, but she still felt terribly ashamed.
