Chapter 59 Repentance

Evelyn stood up and left the living room. Hugo remained sitting on the couch, head lowered and arms hanging loosely at his sides, though the veins on the back of his hands were taut. He sat there for a long time, his expression unreadable. No one knew what he was thinking. At 1:00 am, Evelyn came out of the kitchen with a plate of spaghetti. She had changed into white loungewear, her hair pinned up save for a few strands that fell over her eyes, veiling them. Hugo looked at her dazedly and reached out a hand without realizing it.
