Chapter 2

Isla rubbed her leg while sitting on the bed and released a long sigh. She had been reborn in an awkward time. It just had to be the time when her relationship with Noah had been crumbling. Recalling the determination he had given off when signing the divorce papers, she figured it would be a long journey to win her husband back. The next day, when Noah got up and passed by the bedroom, he saw that it was empty. He was stunned before he smirked in mockery. She had gone looking for Henry again? She just could not wait! He looked away coldly and turned around to go downstairs. The maid approached him to ask when she saw him, “Sir, the breakfast–” “I’m not eating.” Noah walked straight to the door with a cold face. “Madam made breakfast today.” He stopped and looked at the maid in confusion. The maid quickly said, “She started cooking at six. She said that she wanted to make you breakfast herself. Are you not going to try it?” He was slightly stunned, but he instantly frowned. She was willing to do anything for Henry. She had never wanted to eat with him in the past, but she had made him breakfast because of Henry today? She sure loved Henry. This would be the last time… He fell silent for a few seconds and turned around to go to the kitchen. The young lady was wearing a white dress and standing in the open-style kitchen. Her dark hair was in a ponytail, showing her fair face, and she was focused on platting the egg. “What are you doing?” Isla saw him looking unfathomable a few steps away as soon as she looked up. “Hubby!” Her eyes lit up, and she said while smiling, “I made you breakfast. Try it–” She was interrupted by his deep voice before she was done. “We have maids at home. You don’t have to do this.” The smile at the corner of her lips froze, and she felt sad. She had learned to cook because she wanted to take care of Henry, who had a weak stomach. However, she had never made Noah breakfast since they had gotten married. She wanted to treat him better now to apologize to him. However, he no longer trusted her. Pushing away her sadness, she brought the breakfast to the table and pulled Noah over. “Eat first. I’ll heat up the milk.” She turned around to go to the kitchen when she was done speaking. He smirked in sarcasm upon seeing the heart-shaped egg in front of him. Suddenly, Isla’s phone rang. He saw who was calling at first glance. “Henry?” He lowered his head and looked at the breakfast before him, instantly losing his appetite. He scoffed and left the villa. When Isla came back with the milk, she did not find Noah there. She only found out he had left after asking the maid. She felt bitter to see the untouched breakfast on the table. She picked up her phone from the table, not sure whether she should call him. Her father happened to call at that moment. “Dad.” “You still remember that I am your father!” Harry Bennett’s raging voice scolded her from the other side of the line. “How did I give birth to a shameless daughter like you? I don’t care where you are, get back in half an hour, or you’ll be grounded forever!” He hung up before waiting for her to reply. Grabbing her phone, Isla could not suppress the hatred in her heart when she thought of facing her pregnant stepmother and cunning stepsister. Her earlier good mood was ruined completely. She drove straight to the Bennetts after cleaning up. She sensed the tension in the house as soon as she went in. The maid could not help but signal to her when she brought her slippers. Isla walked in after mustering all her courage. She looked at Harry, who was sitting on the couch, and smiled as she greeted him. “I’m home, dad.” She then looked at Lucy Owen and Ava, who was sitting next to him. She subtly checked out Lucy’s belly. She did not look pregnant. She recalled that she should be more than three months pregnant now. “You’re finally home, sis.” Ava stood up instantly to welcome her. She pretended to be nice while holding her hand. “I hope nothing happened at Henry’s party last night?” Isla slapped her before she could get close. “You’re shameless, Ava.” The slap shocked everyone. Harry had been suppressing his anger before, and it was ignited now. He stood up from the couch and scolded her. “Your sister cares about you. What are you doing? I think you’ve gone mad. To Henry, your reputation is no longer important! Never mind that you’re shameless, but people are now talking behind my back!” Isla secretly forced a smile as she watched his disappointed face. Ever since he had brought Lucy and Ava home, their relationship had been getting worse. He had even cut ties with her because of the unborn child in Lucy’s belly. She had witnessed the mother and daughter’s scheme in her previous life. She would definitely not fall into their trap this time! “Cares about me?” Isla seemed like she had heard a joke as she looked at Ava in a mocking manner. “Don’t you know if anything happened to me, Ava? Weren’t you the one who insisted on taking me to the party last night?” “I…” Ava had not expected her to say that. She looked wronged. “Why do you say that, sis? I just took you to a party, I didn’t ask you to… fool around with him.” She looked at Isla’s fair neck. The hickey there was proof of what had happened last night. Henry noticed that too, and his expression changed. He scolded her loudly. “Kneel, you wicked girl!” Isla looked straight into his eyes and asked back calmly, “Why must I kneel?” “What’s with your attitude? Did you forget what you did last night? I didn’t believe it before. I didn’t expect you to be shameless enough to fool around with another man when you’re married! I wouldn’t have given birth to you if I had known that you’d be such a b*tch!” He was panting, and his face was grim. Lucy quickly got up to calm him down. “Don’t be mad, Harry. Mind your health. Isla must’ve been drunk to do that last night… I’m sure she didn’t do that on purpose.” Lucy spoke to him politely, but there was pride in her eyes. “Come apologize to your dad, Isla. Then–” “Who do you think you are?” Isla glanced at her arrogantly and chuckled. “This is the Bennett house. Do you think you have a right to speak here?” She had been deceived by her caring act before. She had thought she was helping her by saying that. However, as soon as she apologized, she would be admitting to last night’s scandal. Lucy’s face froze, and resentment and hatred flashed through her eyes. “Isla, did you forget your manners? Lucy is your stepmother now. Is this how you’re supposed to speak to her?” Harry scolded her. Isla looked at him with a mocking smirk. “Dad, did you forget how mom died?”
