Chapter 3

Harry’s expression changed, and he now had guilt flashing through his eyes. Seemingly wanting to cover his guilt, he raised his voice and yelled. “You’re digging your own grave! Ava, show her the picture. Let’s see if she can argue with that!” Ava glanced at Harry, feeling troubled. She was secretly over the moon as she took out her phone slowly. She had come prepared, or she would not have said that to Harry. Since she had picture evidence, she was eager to gloat. She handed her phone to Isla after opening the picture that she had prepared. She then said in a testing manner, “I received this picture not long after I left last night. Sis, don’t tell me you really slept with Henry?” Isla took the phone and looked at the picture after zooming in. She scoffed. “That’s not me!” She brought the phone to Harry and pointed to the woman in the picture after zooming in. She scoffed. “Dad, don’t tell me you don’t even recognize your own daughter?” Compared to his rebellious first daughter, Harry trusted his good and sensible illegitimate daughter more. Therefore, when Ava told him about the incident, he believed her instantly without looking at the picture carefully. However, upon hearing Isla say that, he instantly lowered his head to look carefully. He frowned. There was a couple in messy clothes in the picture. Although the angle was terrible and dark, he could tell that the woman in the picture was not Isla. Ava felt her heart squeeze when she saw Harry’s suspicious eyes. What had happened? This should have gone as planned. She had drugged Isla’s drink last night and seen her drink it with her own eyes before getting someone to help her into the room. She had set up the person who had taken the picture as well, so how had it gone wrong? “What’s this, Ava?” Harry looked at her strictly and asked in his deep voice. She took her phone and looked carefully. It was really not Isla in the picture. She had been tricked! No wonder that person had kept delaying and refused to send her the picture. It turned out he had not managed to get a picture of Isla at all! Ava bit her lip, looking terrible. “Dad, I didn’t look at it carefully because I panicked. But her neck…” The picture was fake, but the hickey on her neck was real! She would like to see how Isla was going to explain that. Isla raised her brows and scoffed. “What, I have to report to you whenever I sleep with my husband?” “How’s that possible?” Ava slipped up, her face paling. Isla looked at her with a cryptic smile. She took out her phone and called Noah. His cold voice came from the other side of the phone after waiting for a few seconds. “What’s up?” She put it on loud speaker directly and asked with a smile, “Hubby, where was I last night?” He fell silent for a few seconds. “Home.” As she watched Ava, who looked terrible, she asked with a smile, “Was I with you?” He responded flatly, “What’s this about?” “Nothing. It’s just that someone is suspecting us of doing what married couples are legally allowed to do, so I’d like to wake her up.” Isla smirked while staring at Ava. “…I’m in a meeting. I’m hanging up.” Ava looked down, clenching her fists. She had not even noticed that her nails were poking her hands as jealousy and hatred filled her. She had thought Isla hated Noah. When had they become so close? She hated this… “Happy?” Isla took one step closer to Ava. Her smile was cold and cruel. “Should I do something to frame you now?” The latter bit her lip and suppressed the panic inside of her. “Sis, I…” A crisp slap came, interrupting her directly. Ava covered her cheeks, her eyelashes pattering. A gleam of resentment filled her eyes. “Does it hurt?” Isla massaged her numb wrist while looking at Ava’s swollen cheek. She said with a scoff, “Ava, do you think I really don’t know what you did?” Ava looked up and stared into her cold eyes. She was panicking. “Sis, it’s my fault for telling dad about it before investigating it, but I was worried about you. You’re married after all, yet you’re always hanging out with another man. Your future and the Bennetts’ reputation would be ruined if people took photos.” Harry felt a little guilty that they had wronged Isla, but his face sank as soon as he heard that. “Your sister is just being kind. Who should you blame for your indiscretion?” Isla turned her head to look at Harry. “Dad, do you know why I went to Henry’s birthday party?” The former scoffed and said nothing. She was not surprised that he responded like that. After all, everyone believed she was in love with Henry… “You didn’t want me to be in contact with him, so I spoke to him a month ago. Why would I go to his party?” Isla looked at Ava’s face, which was getting paler and paler. She was secretly gloating. “I got a call from her last night, telling me that those people were forcing her to drink. She asked me to pick her up because she was scared. “When I got there, she insisted that I stay and begged me to drink for her. I’m a lightweight indeed, but I wouldn’t get drunk after two glasses of alcohol. So why did I pass out after drinking the drink you gave me?” Ava was pale and shaking. She explained, sounding wronged, “You think too much, sis. Perhaps the alcohol was too strong. I wanted you to relax since you looked so upset–” Isla squinted, her eyes as fatal as a poisonous snake’s. “Do you think they’d find something if I ran a test at the hospital now?” Ava shivered, her face paling. If she really found out the truth, Harry would kick her out! No! Definitely no! She looked at Lucy pleadingly, and the latter understood instantly. She held her belly and groaned. Isla had seen through the mother and daughter, so she immediately spoke. “Dad, Ava is cunning. We can’t…” Lucy raised her voice and screamed while holding her belly. “Ouch, m-my belly… My baby…” Harry was shocked when he heard that something was wrong with his child. He quickly went over to hold Lucy. Seeing her pale face and cold sweat, he instantly turned his head and glared at Isla. “We’ll talk more later. I won’t forgive you if something happens to your brother!” Isla stared at Lucy’s belly, her eyes dimming somewhat. Lucy had been pregnant with this child in her previous life. It had been her father’s priority, as he had been hoping that she would give him a son. However, the child had been lost in the end because Lucy had had a miscarriage. Not only that, but Isla had had something to do with it… The incident had happened tonight, at Ava’s birthday party.
