Once the owner left, Kathleen took a seat, looked over at Shawn, and offered him a bowl of soup. She recalled how Shawn hadn't humiliated her in front of Sarah. Feeling generally cheerful, she was open to making amends with him. They ate quietly. Occasionally, Shawn's phone screen would light up, but he merely glanced at it, not opening any messages.
