Kathleen was at a loss for words. "Jealous?" she suddenly asked, fixing her gaze on Shawn. He reacted as if he had just heard a joke, his eyes displaying disdain. Kathleen pressed her lips together. "You still maintain a good relationship with your ex. If it's so difficult to end things, why didn't you marry her?" Something she said must have struck a nerve, as Shawn picked up his bowl and headed straight to the kitchen. Kathleen lost her appetite as well. When she took her bowl to the kitchen, Shawn reached out to take it from her. "No need. I'll wash it myself," she insisted stubbornly. Shawn watched her as she dumped the leftovers into the trash, her face blank but clearly upset. He hadn't meant to provoke her, but after tidying up the kitchen, he stepped aside. Kathleen washed her bowl and set it in the dish rack. Then, she checked the fridge, finding it nearly empty. She returned to the bedroom, changed her clothes, and left abruptly.
