Chapter 22 You Will Pay for What You Did Today
Liora's POV
"I'll be right there."
My chest tightened as I yanked my hand free from Ethan's grip and moved to leave, but he stepped in front of me.
"Don't worry, Lio. I'll go with you."
I tried to slip past him, but he clung to me like a shadow that refused to fade.
"Lio, what's happening with Jake is more important right now. We can deal with our fight later, alright?"
To me, this was far more than a simple "fight". But with Susan's panicked voice still ringing in my ears, I didn't waste another breath arguing. Instead, I let Ethan follow as we rushed together to the clinic.
By the time we arrived, Dad had already been taken into the emergency room. My stepmother, Susan Ingram, was anxiously waiting outside. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, and her face was filled with worry.
I reached for her hands urgently, only to notice they were trembling slightly. "Susan, what happened? I thought Dad's condition had stabilized? How could he collapse so suddenly?"
