As amazing as that stolen moment had been—hot, breathless—it ended way too soon.
My post-baby body wasn't ready for marathon sessions yet, and Sherman knew it—stopping right after we'd both found release.
While I lay there trying to remember how lungs worked, he got up—cool as ever—and padded to the bathroom.
When he came back, he had a warm, damp towel and that annoyingly gentle look in his eyes.
The kind that made me want to kiss him and punch him at the same time.
He cleaned me up like I was something precious.
I should’ve felt awkward. Instead, I nearly melted.
Now I was curled up against him, wrapped in one of those ridiculously soft hospital blankets that felt like they were spun from clouds and lies.
His golden hair was still damp from a quick shower, and I tucked myself closer, pressing my cheek to his chest right over that steady, grounding heartbeat.
His arm slid around me, firm and possessive, like he was making damn sure the universe knew where I belonged.
