The digital clock on my nightstand blinked 2 :37 AM, its soft blue glow the only light in our bedroom.
Beside me, Sherman slept deeply, his breathing even, one arm draped heavily across my waist even in sleep.
I carefully lifted his arm and slipped out of bed, padding barefoot across the hardwood floor to the bathroom.
My reflection stared back at me in the mirror, lit by the dim nightlight.
Something felt off. I pressed a hand to my chest, feeling my heart hammering under my palm.
Keal, my wolf, stirred restlessly inside me, whining low in a way she hadn't in years.
" What's wrong ?" I whispered.
I splashed cold water on my face, hoping it would settle the strange anxiety prickling under my skin.
But as I reached for a towel, a wave of dizziness hit me so hard I had to grab the edge of the sink.
Then, without warning, I wasn't in our bathroom anymore.
