I straightened my spine and maintained my smile, pretending I wasn't completely transparent.
As we continued walking,Alpha Sherman pressed a kiss to my temple, his fingers tightening around mine—I knew he saw everything, noticed every detail.
His hand hovered at the small of my back as we passed other guests, as if wanting to comfort me.
But I shook my head before he could speak.
"I'm fine," I said softly, my voice slightly strained, "really."
He clearly didn't believe me—I could see it in his furrowed brow and tense jawline—but he didn't argue.

The way people looked at me screamed "you don't belong here," as if I were some pitiful creature in an elegant red dress desperately pretending to be a Luna.
Some women smiled too brightly, while certain men made no effort to hide their confusion.
