Chapter 5 Grand nanny
Louis Hayden was shocked. Isn't this Tarvan Johnson, the same man he knew in Oak city? Is this the man Pamela got her multiple personality and temperament from?
This is exactly how Pamela is. He would rather leave with his kids than allow himself to be humiliated and thrown into the dungeon. He is a young man, full of life and cannot allow it to rot away in the Middletown City dungeon.
Pamela was dazed. Her grandfather would do that. But if she leaves Middletown City amidst this humiliation, she would not return there. She would stay stuck to Louis Hayden and make Oak city her home forever.
Clarion's already reddened eyes glared at Pamela and Louis to leave. They should go. They shouldn't talk back or try to persuade Tarvan to understand.
It would be dangerous for them to spend another minute there. If they can't leave, they should lodge in a hotel and take off the next morning.
Louis Hayden held Pamela's hand and like before intertwined it with his. They both stood, staring at each other's eyes. Louis nodded slightly and took a step, Pamela did the same and they walked out of the mourning hall.
"Get the kids and let's go" Louis declared and Pamela nodded. She disappeared through the side door and soon reappeared holding her daughter and Daniel's hands and the other two boys standing by their mother's side.
Louis held their hands and walked towards the helicopter. Grand nanny stepped out and watched her dear daughter, Alice's baby walk away from her.
Alice once walked away like that and never returned. Will Pamela return again in her own case? Will she come back to see her and not leave like Alice?
But a part of her says she would never see Pamela again. She's already an old woman. She's old and might join her ancestors soon.
Other servants came and some sobbed silently. They knew his highness had banned her for a reason. They might not know what the reason was, but they were leaving because their royal father didn't welcome them.
"My child, oh my dear Pamela" Grand nanny's shaking voice called out. Pamela heard and paused. She turned and glanced back at her.
Other servants were there. Few bodyguards were also watching and heard the grand nanny calling out to Pamela.
Unable to hold herself, Pamela let go the hands of her kids and ran back, throwing herself at the feet of her grand nanny. She started sobbing.
She couldn't say anything. Grand nanny held her. Both women sobbed and the older woman said "Come back to me, my child. Please come back to me"
Pamela stood up and placed her head on grand nanny's shoulder. She doesn't know when she will return, but she hopes it's soon and grand nanny will wait for her. She shouldn't leave her without saying a goodbye like her great grandfather.
"I will, grand nanny. But promise me that you will wait for me. That you won't leave without saying goodbye. Promise me" Pamela asked, cupping the old woman's wrinkled face in her hands.
"I will try my child. But even then, I won't go without saying goodbye. I have a lot to say, but I will try to wait for you" She said and started sobbing.
Pamela nodded. Her tears filled face smiled at grand granny's words and promise. She kissed her temple and granny said "Be happy my child, all your life and stay strong.
You must choose to be a strong woman and fight for your love. It's going to be hard and tough but you will eventually come out happy in the end. Don't forget my words, my child. You must be courageous and strong to win the battle ahead"
Pamela nodded. She doesn't understand but knows it has to do with something ahead of her. Maybe about Leah's refusal to let her be with her son.
Pamela hugged the servants and waved them goodbye. Just before turning, she sighted her grandma Clarion Johnson with tear filled eyes.
Pamela only nodded at her and walked back to her kids, took their hands and got into the helicopter with Louis.
As the helicopter took off from the grand, she looked out and saw the grand nanny waving her hand at her. A cold shiver ran through her spine and she mumbled "Goodbye grand nanny"
Louis Hayden and Pamela didn't say anything to each other. The kids were with them and they wouldn't want to disclose a thing to their hearing.
Through the dark, the helicopter kept going. The kids were feeling sleepy and Louis made them comfortable. Pamela had been sobbing silently.
But when the kids eventually dozed off she sobbed aloud. Louis didn't say anything to her but offered her his shoulders.
Pamela leaned on him and sobbed. She felt that weakness that comes from her inner being. This is too much. Her grandfather had hurt her more than anyone else in this life.
How can he refuse her from being with her great grandfather? Father Jimmy Johnson loves her very much. He called her several names and said she's the beauty and the joy of his old age.
Now, she couldn't even fulfil her duty as a daughter. She can't even be allowed to say goodbye to him. Why, all because she wasn't married to Louis yet?
"Cry as much as you can. Sob, empty your bowels. You know why I said so, because I won't let you sob again for the rest of your life.
As long as I live, I will ensure your happiness is my priority. Your life will begin on a new page and this time, tears will not be a part of your new life anymore" Louis consoled.
'May this be true Louis, I hope it will be true' Pamela thought to herself. If Leah Hayden his mother would make his words come true.
"My life has lost its sweetness, grand nanny. When I saw Pamela left, it was like seeing Alice again. She also left and never returned to me.." Clarion sobbed, sitting by the edge of grand nanny's bed.
She wouldn't say anything to Tarvan. She would hold her peace and watch him do as he likes. The law forbids her from interfering with his decision, especially now that he's going to be crowned as the New King in a couple of hours.
"I believe she won't leave us like Alice. She would return again…"grand nanny consoled the queen, cleaning her own tears and sniffling.
Why would Clarion choose to come to her at this time, when she's also broken and hurt?
