I stir awake sometime later near dawn, and then my beating heart calms when I see Drexon still lying in bed, lifeless. I place my hand on my beating chest, hoping my action would calm it down. I had been so scared that it had somehow found a way to seep into my dreams. I was chasing Drexon, but no matter how many times I stretched out my hand to catch him, he seemed further than I thought, and I kept on hearing Maljore's taunting voice.
"He can never truly be yours."
"He is mine; I'm only letting you keep him for a moment."
"You have never and would never be worthy of him and his love."
I close my eyes and wipe off the bead of sweat that has formed on my forehead. I look around the room and see Marcus silently sleeping on the couch. I had to repeatedly tell my mind that Drexon was okay and no matter what Maljore tried to do, he was mine and never going to be hers.
