Chapter 657

"Okay!" Tessa agreed. Soon after, Maeve was escorted to the deck by Tessa. The maids were disembarking one by one. Just before leaving, Tessa glanced back at Maeve, who gave her a reassuring nod, putting her at ease as she departed. At the dock, a group of men in black suits and sunglasses had been waiting. When Liam arrived, they stepped forward in unison to greet him. One of the men approached and said, "Mr. Larson, Mr. Jefferson has instructed me to ensure you are well taken care of." Liam responded with a cool hum. Maeve couldn't hide her surprise upon hearing the man's voice. It was Bailey, Conner's secretary. She quickly noticed that all the men in black suits bore the Jefferson family emblem. The connection between Conner and Liam was clearly deeper than she had realized. Bailey soon spotted Maeve. His expression faltered at the sight of her, clearly not expecting to find her by Liam's side. "Isn't this… Ms. Scott? How come—" he began, but Liam cut him off sharply. "Don't ask questions you shouldn't," Liam said, silencing him. Bailey quickly lowered his head, replying, "My apologies for overstepping. I'll take you to the place Mr. Jefferson has arranged." "Alright," Liam replied dismissively, clearly uninterested in further conversation. Maeve, following behind Liam, couldn't help but wonder. This was her first time in Yewridge, but wasn't their destination supposed to be Laventon? Doubts gnawed at her, but she kept them to herself. In the car, Liam's tone was casual as he said, "If you have something to ask, just ask." "Where are we going now?" Maeve questioned. "You already know, don't you? We're in Yewridge." "And what brings you here?" she inquired again. With Conner currently in Seathburn City, focusing on taking down Mirage Group and Mason, he had no time to worry about Yewridge. Maeve knew Liam couldn't have come here just to relax. Besides, he was supposed to hunt for that rumored treasure in Seathburn City. She had no clue why he left so abruptly and what he was planning. Raising an eyebrow, Liam responded, "I'm tired. We'll rest here for the night and fly to Laventon first thing in the morning." Hearing this, Maeve felt a sinking sensation in her chest. "Liam, not that I haven't warned you—my family might have gone bankrupt, but I'm still a high-ranking officer at Mirage Group. If I go missing, Mr. Davenport will come looking for me." He replied, "I've already had your resignation submitted to your secretary under your name. You're no longer working at Mirage Group starting today." Hearing this, Maeve looked sharply at Liam. She hadn't told anyone that she was the CEO behind Mirage Group, so Liam couldn't possibly know. Fortunately, Zayla had been with her long enough to recognize a fake resignation letter when she saw one. In a way, Liam had unwittingly helped her send a message. Sitting beside her, Liam didn't miss the strange glimmer in Maeve's eyes. He frowned and asked, "Why do you seem almost pleased?" Sensing his suspicion, Maeve quickly feigned anger, retorting, "Liam, Mirage Group is my last haven. How could you submit my resignation without even asking me? You've gone too far!"
