Chapter 661
After Emily left, Hailey stood up and said to Allie, "Get ready, I'm heading out."
"Mrs. Brooks Senior, are you going to visit Mr. Brooks at the hospital? Everything's prepared," Allie responded.
Allie had thoughtfully prepared some soup, but Hailey turned and went to her bedroom to retrieve a pill from a drawer.
Puzzled, Allie watched as Hailey dropped the pill into the soup, where it quickly dissolved.
"Mrs. Brooks Senior, what are you—"
"Have all the bodyguards come with me to the hospital right now!"
"Yes, Mrs. Brooks Senior."
Sergio had been waiting in the hospital ward for over an hour, and Larry still hadn't returned.
Larry was never this late. A sense of unease gnawed at Sergio.
He got up from the bed, but before he reached the door, he heard footsteps approaching down the hallway.
"Mrs. Brooks Senior, Mr. Brooks is recovering inside," the doctor said respectfully to Hailey.
Hailey nodded and looked up to see Sergio standing at the door.
"Grandma?"
"Sergio, I came to visit you." Hailey wore her usual kind and gentle expression but turned to the doctor with irritation. "Sergio's badly injured—how can he be up and about? Get him back to bed!"
Sergio frowned, then realized something, and sneered, "Grandma, did you really need so many people just to visit me?"
"I'm afraid you'll try to leave. You wouldn't want to end up like that Hackett, crippled and stuck in a wheelchair forever, would you?" Hailey walked over to Sergio and helped him back to his bed.
Looking at the people behind Hailey, Sergio recognized them as her personal bodyguards from Brooks Estate.
He knew he couldn't leave now. He'd have to wait for Larry and find another way to escape.
As Sergio sat on the edge of the bed, Hailey approached with the soup.
She offered it to him, saying, "I had Allie make this for you. Try it and see if it tastes good."
Sergio remained silent but took the soup out of respect for Hailey. He took a sip.
Hailey sighed, "Your father used to love the soup I made. It's a pity I'm too old to make it myself anymore."
The mention of his late father stirred a pang of guilt in Sergio. No matter how Hailey treated him, she had still raised him.
Hailey looked at Sergio and said, "Larry told me you're planning to go to Yewridge to look for Maeve. Is that true?"
Sergio's head shot up in surprise. He couldn't believe Larry had told Hailey.
"That unruly woman is trouble. Your father was destroyed by your mother, and they died together.
"Sergio, you've always been my pride. I won't let you destroy yourself over a woman! And certainly not ruin your future!"
As he looked at Hailey's cold expression, a wave of dizziness swept over Sergio.
Hailey said coldly, "You'll stay in the hospital and recover. I'll take care of Brooks Group for now.
"Once your leg heals and you come to your senses, I'll give you back your position. You're still the sole heir of the Brooks family."
