The car ride home felt like an eternity, the silence pressing down on me like a weight. My hands gripped the edges of my seat as my mind replayed every word Maximilian had said, every cold look he had given me. The humiliation burned hot in my chest, twisting into something darker with each passing moment.
When the car pulled up to the house, I stepped out quickly, slamming the door behind me. The sharp sound echoed in the quiet street, but I didn’t care. I stormed up the steps, my heels clicking angrily against the stone, and shoved the door open.
