Chapter 18
What she said instantly made Lillian and Vera's faces darken.
After a few awkward seconds, Lillian forced a smile and tried to laugh it off. “Oh come on, I was just joking around. You don’t have to take everything so seriously.”
“You know perfectly well whether it was a joke or not,” Cassandra shot her a cold glance and replied flatly.
“Cassandra, don’t be so aggressive…” Lillian’s face turned red with anger. She pointed at Cassandra, her voice sharp and shrill.
That’s when it finally hit Lillian—Cassandra wasn’t crazy. She was finally seeing things clearly. She’d changed completely, like a whole different person, prickly and unafraid.
“Tell me, who started it?” Cassandra’s tone was icy as she stared her down.
Did they really think she was still the same pushover from before?
“Cassandra! She’s your mother. Watch your tone! Apologize right now!” Richard snapped, furious, calling her by her full name.
“My mother died giving birth to my brother. She’s just a stepmother I don’t acknowledge
