Chapter 36
Cassandra’s smile froze halfway. Her throat tightened and her eyes welled up as she looked at him.
Did he actually sense how upset she was?
“Thanks! But Grandpa said you’re not allowed to sleep in my room,” Cassandra said.
Zion hopped off the couch the moment she finished speaking and ran out of the room.
Cassandra blinked in surprise. Was that... a mini tantrum?
After waiting a few minutes and not seeing him come back, she made her way to the bathroom.
Half an hour later—
Wrapped in a towel, Cassandra stepped out just as her phone vibrated with Damien’s reply: *Was in a meeting earlier. Also, a simple "thank you" doesn’t cut it.*
She stared at that last part of the message, internally rolling her eyes—
A “thank you” isn’t enough... you want what, a hug? A dance? Don’t tell me it's one of those favors.
Just as that thought hit, her phone rang out of nowhere, startling her so much she almost flung it across the room. It took a couple tries to finally grip it properly.
