After a good meal, Lilah was finally starting to feel human again.
Not long after she put her fork down, her phone buzzed—it was Gabriel.
"Feeling better?" His voice was low and smooth, laced with obvious concern.
"Mhm, I'm good now," Lilah replied, trying not to sound too delicate. No need to make a fuss.
"Glad to hear that."
There was a short pause before he added, "I'll come home early tonight to be with you."
Her cheeks flushed out of nowhere.
"You... Don't mess up your work because of me."
"It won't."
After hanging up, she held her phone for a second, her heart thumping a little fast.
Ever since their relationship moved forward, their bond had definitely deepened.
It was hard to put into words, but things were changing—subtly and surely.
