Chapter 20
Aidan looked away to avoid Eliana’s gaze - he didn’t want to face just how sad her eyes were, just how devastated and disappointed she was in him for finding out about what he’d done.
No, stop it, Aidan - don’t feel sorry for her! She’s a despicable and malicious woman who doesn’t deserve any of your sympathies - don’t you even think about going soft on her.
Seeing that Aidan wasn’t saying anything, Eliana sighed as she turned to Laura and asked her, “Are you sure that you really don’t want my liver?”
Knowing that Aidan couldn’t see her face at this very moment, Laura raised her brows and smirked at Eliana tauntingly, as though she was laughing right in her face - alas, her voice was cracked and sorrowful, a startling contrast to the wicked expression on her face.
“Yes, that’s right,” Laura sobbed, “I don’t want it, I don’t want it anymore - it’s just not right.”
As soon as she finished her sentence, Laura scurried over to a small round table that was nearby and picked up a knife that was on a fruit plate.
As soon as he saw what she was doing, Aidan furrowed his brows, “Laura, what are you trying to do? Put that knife down!”
Instead of responding to him, Laura turned to Eliana tearfully as she croaked, “Ellie, there’s nothing that you need to worry about - I’ll never want to intentionally cause any harm or hurt upon you. I’ll give up everything, just for you...even if it’ll...cost me my life…”
She then took the knife and drew it across her wrist such that it started to bleed.
Laura smiled sadly at Eliana as blood started to gush out from the gash across her skin - “Ellie, please don’t be mad at Aidan after I leave, alright? He’s an amazing and wonderful man, truly one of a kind - there’s no way that you’ll ever find another man like him. So please - promise me that you won’t stay mad at him, yeah?”
Eliana couldn’t believe the nerve of Laura to be crying crocodile tears and putting up the act that she was putting now - she’s truly a psychopath. How can she pull this off as though she’s the victim?
As soon as she finished her sentence, Laura staggered backwards - she would’ve collapsed onto the floor had it not been for Aidan swiftly lunging forward to capture the former in his arms. Laura looked up at the latter weakly as she smiled at him faintly, as though she was telling him her dying words, “Aidan, I’m so, so sorry that I can’t continue being by your side - please, promise me that you’ll live a good life even without me by your side.”
“No, don’t say that - you’ll be fine, Laura. Let me that you to the hospital right now.”
Aidan then scooped Laura up into his arms and turned to leave - as he did so, Laura turned to smirk at Eliana smugly, as though she was victorious and had succeeded in her plan.
Eliana couldn’t help but scoff internally - Huh, it’s no wonder that Aidan has been completely fooled by this vicious and treacherous woman; she’s an Oscar-worthy actor!
As she watched Aidan walked off with Laura into the distance, Eliana couldn’t help but think about how he treated the latter as though she was on a pedestal, while he treated her like garbage, using her as though she wasn’t a human being - she couldn’t help but feel her heart ache at all of the injustice and abuse that she’d suffered thus far.
No, stop it, Eliana - this isn’t something that you should be sad over. Aidan and Laura - I have nothing to do with either of their affairs.
…
Meanwhile, Travis was examining an unconscious Laura after Aidan had called him to take a look at her - as soon as he was done, the former removed his stethoscope and informed calmly, “Alright, she has lost a lot of blood and needs a blood transfusion - however, there’s just one problem...there’s currently no supply for Miss Collins’ blood type since it’s quite a rare type.”
“What? Is there really no supply? I’m pretty sure that there are at least a considerable number of people with this blood type in Mallstrick City, no?”
Travis did not say anything in response - he was silent for a moment before he sighed, “Well, Miss Harvey has the same blood type as Miss Collins, but as we know, she’s too weak right now to undergo a blood transfusion…”
Aidan’s heart sank - he questioned further, in a rather erratic manner, “Alright, what if we wait until tomorrow to perform the blood transfusion? Perhaps we would find a suitable blood donor by then.”
“I’m afraid that wouldn’t be possible - Miss Collins’ hepatitis is so severe that she might pass on should we choose to wait until tomorrow to execute the blood transfusion. I know that this might not be what you want to hear, but as harsh as it is, it’s the truth.” Travis shrugged in a slightly resigned and defeated manner.
Aidan recalled how Laura had risked her life to save him from the fire; how she’d narrowly escaped death and suffered from severe burns all over her body because of him; how she’d been stabbed by Eliana while trying to protect his mother…
Just then, Aidan spoke up, “What’s the possibility of Eliana dying if we were to draw blood from her?”
“While she may not die, she would undoubtedly be weakened, possibly to the point that her chance of survival after undergoing the liver transplant would be close to zero.” Travis stated solemnly.
