Chapter 21

Aidan furrowed his brows as he took in just how serious the situation was - sensing his friend’s frustration and inner turmoil, Travis couldn’t help but huff, “We both know that Eliana is in no state to donate any blood - what the hell was Laura thinking when she’d slit her wrists? Didn’t she think about the possible consequences? In that case, why should I even…” Before Travis could finish his sentence, Aidan cut him off, “I’ll get Rober to bring Eliana here.” The former was shocked by his friend’s decision - he objected, “But, Aidan…” “Hannah Collins saved me,” Aidan continued, “And so did Laura Collins - the two of them...they’d suffered sexual assault and abuse because of me. I’m indebted to them - I can’t just stand there and watch Laura die without doing anything.” “But what about Eliana?” Travis persisted, “Do you want to see her die?” “No,” Aidan replied without hesitation. Realizing what he’d just said, Aidan cleared his throat slightly before continuing, “Well, letting her die just like this would be letting her off too easily - I want her suffering to be prolonged for as long as possible.” “She wouldn’t die from the blood transfusion, but she most likely would during the liver transplant - I already told you that the chances of her surviving the procedure are almost zero.” “I’ll get them to find another liver donor as soon as possible - I don’t care if Eliana dies, but I do if it isn’t by my hands.” Travis raised a brow upon hearing his friend say that he no longer wanted Eliana’s liver - but really? To let Eliana die by his hands? No, this won’t do...as a doctor, it’s my duty to tell him what needs to be said. “Finding another liver donor is easier said than done - and it’s especially difficult to do so for Miss Collins, who happens to have an extremely rare blood type...the one that Miss Harvey happens to have.” Aidan was at a complete loss for words at this - seeing that his friend had been rendered speechless, Travis patted the former’s shoulder as he reassured, “Even so, things aren’t as hopeless as they may seem - I just want you to be mentally prepared. Alright, why don’t we head into the doctor’s office to discuss the possible options that we may choose before we go any further?” After Aidan and Travis left the room, Laura, who’d been lying motionless on the bed, supposedly unconscious all this while, open her eyes weakly - she couldn’t believe what she’d just heard. Aidan wants to let Eliana off? No, that won’t do - I won’t allow that to happen! I must have Eliana’s liver - I need it. And she must die whilst giving it to me - she must! … Meanwhile, in Blanchard Garden - Eliana was about to rest after she was done with her blood transfusion when Robert knocked on her door. “Miss Harvey,” he greeted Eliana as respectfully as usual, “Second Young Master is asking that you go to the hospital.” “What for?” Eliana murmured. Robert coughed slightly before he explained, “Miss Collins is in a dire state and needs a blood transfusion - however, there is currently a lack of supply for her blood type. Since the two of you happen to share a blood type, Second Young Master thought that…” So Aidan wants my blood - huh, what’s new? He always wants me only when he needs something… “What if I don’t want to donate my blood to her?” Eliana challenged. Robert didn’t know what to say to Eliana - even with the former’s lack of response, the latter was well aware of just what would happen to her if she didn’t agree to go. She knew whether or not she agreed to go, she would be forcibly taken to the hospital where she would be made to donate her blood regardless of whether or not she wanted to. Since I already know that I’ll be made to go to the hospital, either way, I might as well save myself the trouble of making a fool out of myself and obediently go - besides, I wouldn’t want to jeopardize my father and my brother by putting them in potential danger. And so, as reluctant as she was, Eliana nodded and followed Robert to the hospital. … Eliana ended up being hospitalized after the blood transfusion procedure. She’d been on the verge of falling asleep when the door to her ward suddenly swung open to reveal Aidan standing there - he’d gone to check up on how Laura was doing before coming to the former’s room. Eliana stared at Aidan indifferently and vacantly for a moment before turning to look out of the window. She did not make a single sound, nor did she say a single word to him. Just then, Aidan couldn’t help but remember how Travis had told him that the woman in front of his very eyes had sought his help crafting her will - the former felt anger boiling up inside him at this thought. Ugh - the sheer audacity of this despicable and vicious woman would never fail to astonish me…! And so, Aidan lunged forward to grab Eliana by the collar - her face was as pale as a sheet, and her lips were so blue that it was almost as though the latter was already dead. Aidan couldn’t help but feel his heart ache slightly at the sorry sight before him - however, he soon remembered how Eliana was the reason why Laura was in the hospital and sneered at the latter. “I heard that you asked for help to have your will arranged? Hmph, you disgusting and wicked woman - you really just can’t wait to die, hmm? You want it so bad?” Eliana cursed Travis internally - Damn it, why did he tell him? Why couldn’t he have kept this to himself? Aidan started to grow impatient by Eliana’s lack of response - “Well, why aren’t you speaking? Say something - say something, anything! Let me make it clear to you right now - if you think that I’m going to let you die just like that, dream on!” Eliana couldn’t be bothered to lash back at the former - she was too drained and unwilling to do so. And so, she simply said in reply, “You already know that only one of us can live - are you really going to let the woman you love die just because you don’t want me to die?”
