Chapter 31
Eliana took the phone from Aidan and looked at it - on the screen was a text message that she’d allegedly sent four days ago.
“It’s Eliana here - I’ve recently found out that Aidan has found a new liver donor for Laura named Susan Rodney. I want you to take care of her for me - Aidan won’t kill me so long as he needs me as a liver donor. Laura should be a gone case by the time that I recover. You’d better get the job done, good and right - this is the only shot that you’ll be getting.”
Eliana’s eyes grew wide in disbelief at the text that was on the screen - she was so distraught that she couldn’t help but throw the phone down onto the sofa. She looked up at Aidan to see him narrowing his eyes at her - the former opened her mouth to defend herself, only to ultimately decide against doing so for she knew that there was nothing that she could do to convince him that she was innocent.
Eliana was quiet for a moment before she sighed, “It wasn’t me who’d sent the text - I didn’t even know that you were looking for an alternative liver donor. Heck, I don’t know a single thing about sourcing for liver donors.”
Aidan snorted as he threw Eliana onto the ground and planted a foot onto her chest - he sneered, “You really are shameless, aren’t you? The evidence is so clear and apparent - yet, you still dare to try and deny all of the wicked and sinister things that you’ve been up to?!”
“Aidan, I don’t even have a mobile phone - how could I have possibly contacted Bryan?” Eliana countered.
“You really aren’t going to give up your act anytime sooner, are you?” Aidan scoffed, before giving one of his bodyguards a knowing look, “Bring her in.”
The bodyguard went out and brought in a young woman with a terrified expression on her face. Eliana recognized her - she was one of the nurses at the hospital. She was the same nurse who’d scorned Eliana, telling her just how much of a troublemaker she was; she was also the same nurse who’d informed Eliana about just how well Aidan had been looking over Laura…
“Second Young Master, please forgive me,” The nurse wailed, “Miss Harvey asked if she could borrow my mobile phone on that day as she was feeling bored - I felt sorry for her and decided to give in to her. Little did I know that she would be up to something as despicable and atrocious as this…”
Eliana tried to sit up from the ground, only for Aidan’s foot which had been firmly planted on her chest to be preventing her from being able to do so - she retorted, “What nonsense are you talking about? Since when have I ever asked to borrow your mobile phone? I don’t care just how much you’d bullied and tormented me during my stay at the hospital, but really, to try and frame me? That’s a whole new level that you’re stooping to! How dare you?!”
The nurse trembled, “Miss Harvey, please, we both know what happened and what each of us has done - I have nothing against you. Why would I want to try and inflict any harm upon you? I’m merely telling the truth about the events that’d culminated - oh, please, Second Young Master, please, let me go...my parents are waiting for me at home…”
“Get her out of here,” Aidan ordered, wrinkling his nose slightly in annoyance at the nurse’s relentless crying. The nurse let out a broken wail before she was dragged away by the bodyguards.
Aidan then turned back to Eliana and glared at her, exerting even more pressure with the foot that he’d planted on her chest - “Is there anything else that you would like to add? Hmm?”
Eliana reached out to grab Aidan’s ankle - to her surprise, her words were calm and not quivery like she’d thought that they would come out, “Aidan, I’m telling you right now that it wasn’t me, it really wasn’t me...I may not have any proof, but please, Aidan, I can assure you that I’m telling you the truth...nothing but the truth…”
“What makes you think that I would believe you? Eliana, you’re known to be a compulsive and remorseless liar - why would I believe you? You really enjoy ripping others apart and ruining their lives, don’t you?”
Eliana didn’t know if she would like that, for she’d never done anything of that sort - it was never her who’d been behind any of these vicious and atrocious acts. It’d always been Laura - the former knew that her cousin must’ve bribed the nurse to say what she’d said at some point in time. Without any concrete evidence, there was nothing really that she could do but to swallow her pride and accept her fate.
Even though Eliana felt extremely wronged for she had done nothing wrong, she held back the tears that threatened to well up in her eyes and tried to reason with the man whom she’d once loved so much, “Aidan, all these would never have happened if you’d been willing to believe me just once.”
“Don’t try and turn this against me,” Aidan retorted haughtily, “You only have yourself to blame for everything that has happened - you were the one who’d caused all of this mess.”
Aidan took his foot off Eliana, squatted beside her, and grabbed her by the collar - he growled, “Eliana - the only reason why I’m keeping you alive is so that you would suffer and burn for all of your wicked sins. I won’t hesitate to throw your life away in exchange for that of Laura’s, so don’t think that you’re safe - a woman like you is so horrid and disgusting that you deserve absolutely nothing.”
He then threw Eliana back onto the ground before standing up - he turned to Robert and instructed, “Take care of this - also, call Travis and ask him to come over as soon as he can. He needs to make the necessary preparations rumbling for the operation within a week. As for the liver…”
