Chapter 32

Aidan pointed towards Eliana, who was still sprawled across the ground, and continued icily, “Use hers.” Robert furrowed his brows as he tried to reason with the former, “Second Young Master…” “Didn’t she try to commit suicide? Well, I’m giving her a chance to die now - I’ll see who’ll be able to protect Richard and Eddie Harvey once she’s dead and buried.” Aidan cut Robert off coldly and sharply before storming out of the basement. Even though she was trembling and scared of her wits, Eliana mustered up her remaining strength to lurch forward and grab Aidan by the arm, only for the latter to wrinkle his nose in disgust before peeling her hands off - “You’d better know your place and stay away from me, you filthy woman.” Eliana grimaced slightly as she was thrown against the wall - she ignored the pain that instantly shot up her back as she looked at Aidan sadly, “Aidan, I’ve already signed the contract that you’d handed to me - I promised that I would give you my liver in exchange for the safety and well-being of my family. A deal is a deal.” Aidan snarled as he reached out to squeeze Eliana’s face - “Didn’t I warn you a long time ago about the consequences that your family would face if you tried to commit suicide? Yet, you still attempted to do so - you know what? Since you’re so defiant, why not let your father and your brother atone for your sins on your behalf?” “No, please, Aidan, don’t do this - I’m begging you. Please.” Eliana grabbed Aidan’s wrist and knelt before him, “I know that you despise me and the Harvey family - while I’m willing to bear all of the hatred and resentment that you hold towards my family, I’m not willing to let you take it out on them. So, please - please let my family off on account of the love that I had for you for so many years.” “Love? What love?” Aidan snorted before kicking Eliana away - “You married me, only to leap into another man’s bed as soon as you got the chance to do so - instead of reflecting about all of the bad things that you’d done, you got frisky with another woman while you were locked up in prison. So, tell me, Eliana - did you really ever love me? You disgust me.” Aidan tried to walk away, only for Eliana to surge forward again and wrap her arms tightly around the former’s leg - “Aidan, I beg you, please…” she sobbed. Aidan couldn’t help but seethe at the pathetic sight - he couldn’t believe that Eliana, once so arrogant and haughty, would be reduced to such a pathetic and miserable state. It looked like time could really show a person’s true colors and expose them for who they really are. “You want to beg me? Alright, you know what? Since you want to beg me so much, why don’t you kneel outside in the courtyard until I cool down and decide to let you off.” Aidan spat before shoving Eliana away and stalking off. Eliana sagged onto the ground, tears welling up in her eyes - just then, Robert came over to her side to help her up, “Miss Harvey, you may get up.” “Robert,” Eliana wailed, unable to hold back the crack in her voice, “Is there anything that I can possibly do to save my father?” Robert sighed, “Miss Harvey, you must know that Second Young Master has been really doing all that he can to find an alternative liver donor - he’s doing so because as much as he’s unwilling to admit it, he doesn’t want to let you die. You really shouldn’t have asked Bryan…” “I didn’t do it, Robert - I really didn’t do anything, I swear to God.” Eliana shook her head in protest, “That nurse from earlier? She despised me and bullied me during my time there - why would I borrow a phone from someone who dislikes me so much?” Eliana then proceeded to bang her head against the ground, as though it would stop her heart from hurting as much as it was - she screeched, “I’m innocent - I swear to God, I’m innocent!!! I’M INNOCENT!!!” “Miss Harvey, Miss Harvey! Please, please calm down,” Robert murmured urgently as he tried to stop Eliana from further hurting herself, “I can help you look into this matter, but I’m afraid that Second Young Master is currently so mad that he wouldn’t even bother listening to me should I try to speak up for you.” Eliana’s shoulders sagged - what else was there she could do to salvage the situation? Kneel...Aidan’s voice echoed in her head. Kneel? He wants me to kneel? Alright, you know what? Fine - I’ll kneel if he wants me to kneel so badly. I’ll kneel if it means that my family will be safe and sound… And so, Eliana stumbled out into the courtyard before dropping down to her knees - the servants who’d witnessed this sight began to murmur and whisper amongst themselves. But Eliana didn’t care - all she wanted was for Aidan to cool down so that he would decide to spare her family. Eliana knelt in the courtyard from dusk till dawn...just then, a flash of lightning lit up the sky, followed by the rumbling sound of thunder. Before she knew it, the rain came pouring down at around one in the morning, starting as a light rain to become a heavy downpour - Eliana couldn’t help but scoff internally, Huh, God really hates me, doesn’t he? … Meanwhile, Robert had been watching Aidan being stuck on the same page for two hours when it started to pour - the former started worriedly, “Second Young Master, it’s raining. Miss Harvey is still out in the courtyard…”
