The boy threw himself into his mom's arms, crying nervously, "Please don't hurt my mom, please!"
Sabrina glanced at the kid, her gaze flickering for a second before lowering her gun. Still, to stop Charles's wife from running out and warning someone, she quickly shoved something up against the bedroom door from the outside.
She slung her backpack on and darted out of the house.
It was pitch black and freezing out. She checked her phone-no signal. No wonder Charles had to go all the way out just to make a call.
She had no clue when those people would show up, how many there'd be, or whether they were planning to wipe her out-or worse, drag the entire village into their mess.
The more she thought about it, the more on edge she felt. She'd come out here thinking it was just a trip to an old house, and now she was neck-deep in some trap set up by people she'd never even seen coming.
