Chapter 44
Moments later, Cassian walked back to the master bedroom with the unconscious woman in his arms. His face was like stone, tense to the extreme, and the intensity in his eyes could practically burn through her.
Without much care, he dropped her onto the soft bed.
Sabrina shifted slightly, seeming to find a comfortable spot in her sleep. Cassian stood by the bed, jaw tight, veins twitching on his temples. His whole body felt on edge, the tension hard to ignore.
He knelt on one knee, leaning closer as he looked at her pale face-still recovering after throwing up and nearly drowning. Reaching over, he brushed the messy hair from her forehead. Seeing just how fragile she looked, the rise and fall of his chest slowly began to calm.
He pulled the blanket up to cover her bare skin, then took a deep breath and turned away decisively.
The house was dead quiet as night wore on.
"No...," a low, shaky voice broke the silence. "Please, no!"
