The day had slipped into evening, and time seemed to blur by in an instant. The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a fiery glow over the lake beside us. The bonfire crackled and danced, sending bursts of flames into the sky. The only sound was the relentless crackling of burning wood.
The crowd had fallen into an uneasy silence. Nixx's eyes, burning with anger, locked onto Percival's. I saw Percival lower his head in embarrassment, then look up again, taking a deep breath and puffing out his chest. He was bracing himself.
Nixx approached him, his anger palpable. His fists were clenched so tightly his knuckles had turned bone white. I readied myself, prepared to back him up if needed.
