Everett’s POV
I arrived at the rendezvous point of an unclaimed border zone with Miley.
Guided by two Taylor family bodyguards, we entered a self-built concrete structure.
This was a remote area. The building was stark—bare walls on all sides, a river running alongside it, the border of another country just across the water. In the distance, sporadic gunfire echoed.
Inside, three rooms had been partitioned off. The largest, facing south, had two bodyguards posted at the doorway.
“Mr. Robinson, our Master is waiting for you inside,” the lead bodyguard said.
I gave a faint reply before turning to Miley. “Wait here.”
Her expression tightened, but she nodded.
I followed the bodyguards into the largest room. After escorting me inside, they quickly exited and closed the door.
The furnishings were sparse: a wooden table, a worn leather sofa, a custom-built laptop, and a black handgun resting beside it.
The owner of these items, Louis, stood before the room’s sole window, his back to me.
