Chapter 1009 Don’t Let Brendan Find Out
Emily pouted.
‘How boring! Someone has already reported it to him so soon.’
Nevertheless, she had to keep up the act.
“What’s wrong, Mr. Brighthall? Why are you suddenly looking at me like that?”
Brendan showed Emily those reports and said coldly, “Miss Collins, I respect you, but that doesn’t mean you can play these tricks on me.”
Following that, he turned and walked away.
Emily quickly caught up and grabbed Brendan.
“Wait for me, Brendan—”
“Don’t touch me!”
After being forcefully shaken off, Emily’s hand throbbed with pain, and she gasped. She couldn’t maintain her grip on the bag and released her grasp. But she ignored her bag and ran toward Brendan. “Hold on, Brendan, listen to me. This has nothing to do with me. What benefit do I get from this if it spreads?”
Brendan finally grabbed her wrist with a powerful grip and glared at Emily furiously.
“If Deirdre finds out, I will definitely ensure that you are held responsible for your action.”
After speaking, he walked away hastily, with a hint of worry and anxiety appearing on his usually cold face.
Emily narrowed her eyes. She did not expect that Deirdre could affect Brendan so much.
It was not a good thing for her.
But the thought of such a man showing the same emotions toward her and rejecting other women after she managed to conquer him was too tempting for her to resist.
“Miss.” Nolan handed her the bag and said disapprovingly, “Brendan seems very angry. Hence that woman should be someone very important to him. You shouldn’t do this kind of thing again. Once Brendan goes crazy, no one can control him, let alone the current Collins Pharmaceutical.
“Moreover, you clearly have more options. Why do you have to—”
Emily coldly glared at him. “What do you know? If a woman chooses to marry a man, she naturally wants to pick the one she is most satisfied with. The moment I saw Brendan, the other men were insignificant. I have to marry him!”
“But he has strong feelings for Miss McKinnon… Isn’t it unwise for you to do this?”
“Strong feelings?” Emily sneered. “Feelings are the most boring thing in the world. I never believe in such things.
“But what happened today has indeed made me realize Brendan’s feelings for Deirdre. I have to handle him with care, and my methods must be gentler.
“Go and cover up this matter. Don’t let Brendan find out it was me.”
Nolan looked at Emily with a hint of admiration in his eyes. “Sure.”
-
Brendan drove back to the mansion and rushed into the living room without locking his car.
“Deirdre!”
Deirdre was sitting alone on the sofa, studying Braille. She turned toward the source of the sound, her face as gentle as ever.
“You’re back? Why so early today?”
Brendan was stunned, slowly walking toward Deirdre.
Deirdre went on studying Braille while adding, “Why are you not speaking? Did you bring me the carrot cake I asked for? Did you buy it?”
Deirdre's attitude was as usual, but Brendan knew she couldn’t be unaware. In other words, if Ophelia knew about it, Deirdre would know as well.
It was just that Deirdre’s attitude made him feel helpless. After regaining his composure and the chest pain due to nervousness eased, he hugged Deirdre.
Deirdre did not struggle.
“I’m sorry,” muttered Brendan.
Lowering her head and flashing a smile, Deirdre gently pushed Brendan away and said, “It’s alright if you didn’t buy it. No need to be so sentimental. That store is always bustling, and it’s not easy to get the cake. Just remember to bring it next time. I’ve already forgiven you.”
