Chapter 1011 Deirdre Is Everything to Me
Brendan glanced at Deirdre’s red lips with desire, raised his head, and greeted, “Aunt McKinnon.”
Ophelia said, “I saw both of you hugging each other from upstairs. Have you made up with each other?”
“Hmm.” Brendan nodded and held Deirdre’s hand. “I explain everything that happened clearly to Deirdre, so she forgives me.”
There was no way to tell Ophelia’s mood from her expression, but she cracked a rigid smile as if she was still infuriated by the incident earlier.
“Alright then. I can’t meddle with both of you when you’re in a couple’s quarrel. However, I will never let you off if you do a disservice to Deirdre, even if she forgives you.”
Brendan’s expression was extremely sincere when he said, “Yes, Aunt McKinnon. Deirdre is everything to me. I swear that I will never let her endure any injustice, and I won’t allow other women to challenge her place.”
Deirdre was stunned for a moment while Ophelia did not comment further.
She came to stop Brendan when he was preparing to enter the room with Deirdre.
“Brendan, not that I don’t approve of both of you sharing a room. However, you’re a man. It would be better for you to sleep separately with her from the start rather than torturing yourself later.”
Brendan furrowed his eyebrows ever so slightly and said, “I have a sense of propriety, Aunt McKinnon.”
He would never allow himself to hurt Deirdre, especially now that she was pregnant.
Ophelia smiled. “I know that you’re a good child with a sense of propriety. However, Deirdre pities you. Are you willing to let her feel sad when she sees how tormented you are? It would be better to sleep in separate rooms before the child is born or in the next two months.”
Deirdre wanted to put in words for Brendan, but he said in all seriousness after considering, “Alright, I shall return to my room to rest then.”
Brendan returned to his room to prove his determination.
Deirdre said hesitantly, “Mom, do you have any objections toward Brendan? In truth, the situation today—”
“I know that today’s incident wasn’t his intention.” Ophelia interrupted her by saying in a cold voice, “I feel that you’re overly devoted to Brendan, Deirdre. I’m your mother. Do you think that I will do anything to let you down?”
“You will still have to test out Brendan. If he really can put up with this in the next two months and treat you well as he usually does, I shall believe that his love for you is true. I would be able to set my mind at ease knowing that when I’m gone.”
At the mention of the word ‘gone’, Deirdre felt her heart racing, and her expression turned solemn without her notice.
“Nonsense, mom. You’re going to live a long life and keep me company for a long, long time. You’re going to be with me at all times.” Deirdre hesitated for a moment. “Or, do you have some place else to be?”
A look flashed past Ophelia’s eyes. She said with a smile, “Silly girl, where else will I go? I’m only feeling emotional momentarily because I’m scared that you’ll be treated unfairly when you’re alone. All in all, just listen to me. Don’t allow Brendan to misbehave during this period. If he really loves you, he will respect your decision.”
Deirdre pursed her lips. She had always abided by Ophelia.
“Sure.”
Ophelia cracked a heartfelt smile. “I knew that you’ve always been very obedient. Go back to your room to rest quickly.”
Deirdre nodded. She had mixed feelings when she shut the door.
She wondered if she was overthinking because she realized that Ophelia’s impression of Brendan seemed to change for the worse. It was obvious that Ophelia wanted her to stay away from him when she spoke.
Deirdre lay on the bed and thought from her mother’s point of view. She understood how Ophelia did not wish for her daughter to be treated wrongly yet was so caught up in it that she could not extricate herself.
