Chapter 1022 Why Did Brendan Let Her Into the House
'Because he's busy chatting with Emily?'
At that moment, Deirdre's entire body felt cold.
'What sort of conversation is so engaging that he would lose sleep over it?
'Is it about work again? Or is he just staying to talk to Emily more? After all, Brendan has never been one who enjoys chatting…
'This isn't right…'
Deirdre patted her face.
She could not allow herself to indulge in wild conjectures anymore. She knew that Brendan was not that kind of person, and she could feel his love all along.
'Perhaps… Perhaps he really has something important…'
Deirdre suppressed the chaotic thoughts in her mind, shut the door, and returned to the bed soundlessly.
Emily noticed the shutting door through her peripheral vision and returned to the conversation topic about Deirdre once again.
Brendan refused to yield to her this time.
"Miss Collins, I've already told you everything that you want to know. As for everything else, I wonder if I'm overthinking, but it feels like you're going around in circles constantly." Brendan's expression was filled with impatience that turned into coldness. "I need to rest. We'll talk tomorrow if there's anything else."
He walked toward Deirdre's room, but before he got there, Emily said nonchalantly, "Are you going to Miss McKinnon's room, Mr. Brighthall?"
Brendan turned his head to look at her with a warning gaze.
Emily shrugged. "I'm not trying to do anything, but I would like to tell you that it's already midnight now, Mr. Brighthall. Miss McKinnon is already asleep, so you'll disturb her if you go to her so late at night. It will create an unseen burden on her brain. If Miss McKinnon wants to regain her sight, she will need to get some good sleep first."
Brendan's legs halted to a stop instantly.
'Yes, it is late, and Deirdre is already asleep. I will only wake her if I go to her now.'
He retracted his footsteps and walked back to his room.
In the corridor, Emily smirked proudly after witnessing the scene.
'Deirdre…
'Isn't worthy of competing against me yet.'
-
It was already morning by the time Deirdre woke up.
She looked at the brightening sky and touched the other side of the bed with a tinge of hopefulness.
It was all empty.
Not only was the bed empty, but not even a trace of temperature could be felt.
Brendan had not come to her last night.
Deirdre shut her eyes from the headache and felt the stinging pain in her chest that came between her breaths without her notice. 'Did he not come because he spent the whole night talking to Emily?'
Draping a jacket over herself, Deirdre opened the door and heard Emily's laughter.
"How is this happening? The Sullivans are really foolish. It's not a wonder they have exhausted their money on the resort project alone."
Brendan sounded like he was in a good mood. "They are determined to yield 20% of the project just so they can obtain the collaboration with the Brighthall Group."
"That is awesome! I wonder if I can consider myself playing a small part that contributed to the success?"
"Hmm." Brendan had always been fair in rewarding and punishing. "It's all thanks to you."
"That's great! Shall I decide on the location for today's meal?"
"Hmm."
Deirdre's footsteps halted to a stop.
'Are they going out for a meal together as well?'
"Why are you standing at the door instead of going downstairs, Deirdre?"
Ophelia walked out of her room.
Deirdre recovered from her surprise and attempted to compose herself. "I just got out…"
She was preparing to go downstairs when Ophelia stopped her. "I heard the woman talking and laughing with Brendan for a long time when I woke up. Is she Emily? Why did Brendan let her into the house?"
Ophelia spoke in a pressing tone as if she was very reluctant for her daughter to be wronged.
Deirdre hastily explained, "Miss Collins is my attending doctor."
"Attending doctor?" Ophelia looked at her in doubt. "For real? You must be working together with Brendan to deceive me, right?"
