Chapter 233
While I was still lost in thought, Henry’s voice suddenly turned icy. “Don’t twist things. This has nothing to do with anyone else. Her major, her name—it doesn’t matter. Just pure coincidence.”
He was saying this to Vera, but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out who "her" was.
Right after he said that, I could hear Vera lose it on the other end. She was full-on crying, her voice shaking. I caught a few scattered words—something about a secret crush, some white moonlight nonsense… and my name got mentioned too.
Honestly, Vera had always come off as this composed, unshakeable person to me. I’d never seen, or heard, her break down like this before.
I thought Henry would at least try to calm her down—her eyes were still injured, crying like this couldn’t be good. But nope. He just straight up hung up the call, yanked off the Bluetooth earpiece, and tossed it on the dashboard.
I sat there in a daze. What the hell had Vera said to make even Henry snap like that?
