“He didn’t say much, just handed over Evan’s red envelope for me to keep,” I answered honestly, while leaving out part of the truth.
Somewhere deep down, I just had this gut feeling that Grandpa giving me Henry’s talisman wasn’t something Marilyn Gray would take kindly to. So I kept it to myself.

She let out a sharp scoff. “Still pretending? Grandpa got a lawyer over yesterday to draft the transfer papers. He gave you what was left of his shares. You’re telling me you had no clue? Don’t think just because you sweet-talked him a few times and played nice in front of him that I’d actually welcome you into the family.
