CAMILA'S POV
It was colder than I thought on the outskirts of the city. Silent, broken, and dark, the abandoned safehouse stood at the edge of everything. As I moved closer, my heart pounded in my chest. My father's note indicated the hidden location where the truth awaited.
I told myself I was prepared. However, I was overwhelmed by a million questions screaming inside me. What if I was stepping into a trap? What if the man I was looking for wasn't my uncle Santiago?
Slowly, I pushed the door open. The creaking sound of the old hinges was a warning. I crept in and froze. He was there. Santiago. alive. With eyes colder than winter, they watched me.
He sneered and remarked, "So, the little princess shows up after all." His voice was low and menacing. "You're either dead or with me."
I swallowed hard, but I didn't give up. "Why? What caused you to vanish? Why would you lie to me? Trying to speak steadily, I asked.
