Chapter 35
LUIS VEGA's pov
Across the room, I see Camila. I could tell she was prepared for whatever came next by the way her eyes didn't blink or flicker away. The tension in the air between the characters was heavy, as if we were imprisoned in a glass cage. Loyalty was no longer the only factor. It had to do with control. concerning power. About everything I believed I had, and perhaps everything I was going to lose.
"You must make a decision," I said in a steady but quiet voice. "You either support me or you oppose me."
She didn't even flinch. She simply stared at me down as if she dared me to say more and crossed her arms like a wall to keep me out.
She stated, icily, "I no longer accept orders from anybody."
It was like a slap to me. My jaw tightened. I sensed a storm building inside. How on earth did we end up here? At what point did the alliance turn into a battlefield? At what point did her face become the enemy I had to break rather than the one I wanted to keep safe?
