Chapter 48
Alejandro's pov
Smoke and the pungent smell of gunpowder filled the night air. With my heart thumping like a drum in my chest, I hunkered behind a collapsing wall. I could still hear Camila's voice, her cries for assistance, and her unflinching faith.
Someone whispered next to me, "Are you sure about this?"
I tightened my hold on my weapon and nodded. "This must end tonight."
With every step we took toward El Diablo's stronghold, we advanced through the darkness in silence. Ahead, the building loomed, its windows glowing menacingly.
I muttered, "Remember the plan." "In and out, no needless risks."
Plans, however, seldom make it past initial contact. Chaos broke out as we broke through the door. Screams, gunfire, and the pungent smell of wood burning.
"Cover me!" I yelled as I dove behind a table that had fallen over.
Bullets flew by, breaking glass and splintering wood. El Diablo was staring at me from the other side of the room.
"Alejandro," he sneered. "I hoped you would come."
