Chapter 68
Alejandro's pov
Even though I'm looking out the window once more, my thoughts are not in this peaceful room. I imagine a world in which the sun is warm rather than menacing. where I'm not constantly checking my back. A life without hiding or fleeing. Life is painless and devoid of guns.
Calm.
Is it merely a dream? Is it possible for us to reach that point?
I keep hearing Camila's words. "We must have faith."
But when the past refuses to let go, it is difficult to believe. when the ghosts continue to appear.
"Are you certain that we can achieve peace?"
She looks directly into my eyes as she asks.
I really want to say yes.
But I can't get the truth out of my throat.
My phone rings, breaking the silence.
"Plans are proceeding more quickly than anticipated."
The other person's voice is icy and piercing.
"We cannot afford to make mistakes."
I feel the burden grow heavier as I close my eyes.
I'm attempting to determine who is truly on our side. Everyone is observing everyone else.
